Spoken Menus for MP3 Players, including iPod
Rockbox
Some iPods and other MP3 players can be made to speak! Spoken menus and directory names make them more accessible to people with vision impairments. This is an open source project so it isn't an easy project but there are lots of people working on this popular product to make it more useable. Rockbox also allows the iPod to be used as an external memory device so you could use it like a USB thumb drive. I'll be trying this soon and will add an update.
